DES 120

Crucial to a designer is the ability to make informed, deliberate, and appropriate visual decisions. Through the DES120 class, also known as “2D Form Studio” students develop a keen sense of what to do with the most simple and basic design elements, establishing the foundation for visual decisions design students will make both in their upper-level coursework and in their careers as professional designers.

Student introduction to the fundamentals of three-dimensional form in terms of making 3d forms, as well as the design thinking and process behind such compositions. Des 130 carries an emphasis on the visualization of 3d compositional concepts and their physical and digital fabrication.

Student introduction to the fundamentals of drawing in the context of studying and creating designs. Students learn how to draw one, two, and three-point perspective for objects and environments, as well as how to apply light and shadow to their compositions.

Introduction to the fundamentals of design theory and process in digital media. Utilizes current technologies to explore basics of motion graphics and interaction design.

Introduction to photography used in the context of design studies. Familiarity with the camera, studio, digital techniques and software programs in the contacts of observation, composition, and meaning.
